Amazon India launched its first fulfilment centre and sort centre in Varanasi on or around 23 September 2026 ahead of the festive season. The fulfilment site holds one lakh cubic feet of storage while the sort centre covers 13,000 square feet. The move adds to two fulfilment centres, five sort centres and 170 last-mile stations already in Uttar Pradesh.

Amazon opened the Varanasi facilities as part of a wider push adding 20 new fulfilment centres nationwide. Storage capacity across the network rose 50 per cent to 64 million cubic feet.

Local dark-store pickers and kirana owners now face faster Amazon restocks that undercut same-day cash-and-carry runs. Riders gain denser drop density but compete with Amazon’s own last-mile fleet for festive tips.

The facilities will help speed up deliveries to customers in Varanasi and nearby areas and create hundreds of local jobs.

This helps tier-2 and tier-3 shoppers get quicker large-appliance deliveries while pressuring regional 3PLs and Flipkart’s UP network on speed. Blinkit and Zepto dark stores nearby must match inventory depth or lose basket share.

Watch Diwali order volumes from the new hub and any further UP pin-code coverage updates before the next quarterly logistics filing.
