A CLSA report dated around 26-27 August shows Blinkit holding 969 dark stores across India’s top 10 cities, ahead of Zepto’s 828. Flipkart Minutes overtook Swiggy Instamart with 627 versus 615 stores and better pincode coverage. The five tracked players run 3,536 dark stores in those cities; quick commerce now reaches 477 cities overall.

Blinkit accounts for about 30% of dark stores in the top 10 cities and over 34% nationally, per the CLSA mapping released late August. Flipkart Minutes edged past Instamart on both store count and coverage. Bengaluru alone hosts 735 dark stores.

A dark-store rider in Gurgaon or a picker in a Bengaluru micro-fulfilment centre now works denser routes. Higher store counts cut delivery times and raise utilisation, directly lifting the P&L on every 10-minute order.

Blinkit holds 969 dark stores in the top 10 cities against Zepto’s 828.

The lead squeezes Zepto and Instamart on city density while helping Flipkart Minutes gain share in metros. Smaller markets see new entrants testing lighter formats, giving first-mover edges outside the top 10.

Watch September store-addition numbers and any festive-season order spikes to see if the density gap widens before Diwali.
