Blinkit raised its store target to 3,500 by March 2027 from 3,000 and flagged roughly 5,000 by March 2028 after adding 308 net outlets in the September quarter to reach 2,751. Eternal posted a 92% rise in Q2 net profit. Management cited better unit economics in smaller cities.

Blinkit ended the quarter at 2,751 dark stores after 308 net additions and immediately lifted the March 2027 goal to 3,500. Adjusted EBITDA margins are expected to hold even as new sites ramp, with mature stores offsetting the drag.

For a dark-store operator the number means more 2,000-3,000 sq ft leases on city fringes and higher throughput for the rider fleet. One extra 300-store wave can lock in local kirana-sourced private label for staples and fresh.

Blinkit now targets 3,500 stores by March 2027, betting smaller cities deliver cleaner economics.

The acceleration pressures Zepto and Instamart on real estate and delivery talent while giving FMCG brands faster listing slots in tier-2. Competition is described as more predictable, freeing capital for infrastructure.

Next checkpoint is the March 2027 count and the festive-to-winter order density in the new smaller-city cohort. Eternal’s full Q2 letter already flags payback comfort outside metros.
