Blinkit continues to operate the largest dark-store network in India’s top cities and is the only major quick-commerce player actively expanding beyond them, according to a late-August CLSA note. The platform held 2,243 dark stores as of March 2026.

Expansion outside metros positions Blinkit for the next wave of adoption as smaller cities discover 10-minute delivery. Rivals have slowed new-store pace to protect contribution margins.

A rider in a Tier-2 catchment now covers longer average distances yet still hits the same delivery promise. Dark-store rent and staffing costs rise faster than order density in the early months.

Blinkit alone is expanding dark stores past the metros.

The move pressures Zepto, Instamart and the newer Amazon Now and Flipkart Minutes networks that remain more metro-heavy. Local kiranas lose high-frequency small-basket sales.

Watch the next dark-store count update and any festive capacity addition. September-October order spikes will reveal whether non-metro unit economics turn positive before peak wedding season.
