French hypermarket returns via Apparel Group franchise with large-format bet that still needs floor space for the big basket.

Carrefour opened its first India flagship, a 50,000-sq-ft hypermarket at H&S Mall in Greater Noida West, in early September 2026 through a franchise partnership with Dubai-based Apparel Group. The store carries over 15,000 SKUs of fresh produce, groceries, bakery and household goods and forms the base for a planned 50-store rollout.
The Greater Noida outlet mixes international lines with local sourcing and sits in a new mall corridor where organised grocery still fights for share. Apparel Group handles the India master franchise while Carrefour supplies the format playbook.
On the shop floor the large basket still pays the rent. A family filling a trolley with staples and private-label packs generates higher absolute margin than a 10-minute dark-store order of the same items, which is why the French chain is betting floor space remains cheaper than pure last-mile density for discovery.
Carrefour plants a 50,000-sq-ft hypermarket and eyes 50 stores via Apparel Group.
The opening helps mall landlords fill big boxes and pressures nearby DMart and Reliance Smart stores on price perception. It also gives kirana suppliers a new modern-trade door while quick-commerce platforms watch whether shoppers still drive for bulk.
Next checkpoint is the festive quarter and any update on the 50-store target. Navratri-Diwali footfall will decide if the hypermarket format can scale beyond NCR before q-commerce saturates the same catchments.
