Carrefour opened its first India store under a new Apparel Group franchise in Greater Noida, a 50,000-square-foot hypermarket carrying about 50,000 SKUs. Soft-opened mid-August and formally live in early September 2026, the retailer plans roughly 50 stores across NCR and Uttar Pradesh over three to four years before wider expansion.

The Greater Noida flagship at H&S Mall stocks fresh produce, grocery, bakery, household and personal care with a mix of local and international lines. Formats under consideration include hypermarkets, supermarkets, gourmet and express. Initial sales exceeded early expectations according to the partners.

A shopper walking the 50,000-sq-ft floor still fills a large trolley that a 10-minute rider cannot match on bulk staples or discovery. Dark-store pickers nearby lose the big-basket trip; kirana owners watch private-label pricing on staples.

The move pressures existing hyper formats from Reliance and DMart on assortment breadth while giving Apparel Group a grocery anchor. Quick-commerce players keep speed advantage on small baskets.

Second NCR outlet of about 10,000 sq ft is slated for October; watch festive footfall numbers and any q-com fulfilment pilots from the same sites.
