Avenue Supermarts posts ₹19,206 crore revenue yet faces quick-commerce heat; kiranas and dark stores watch the value gap.

Avenue Supermarts reported revenue of ₹19,206 crore for the September quarter, up 18.4 percent year-on-year, and added 15 new stores to take the count to 518. Same-store sales growth stood at 3 percent, or 11 percent after festive calendar adjustment. Shares still fell more than 6 percent on 6 October as analysts flagged slower future growth.
Goldman Sachs cut its outlook, projecting revenue growth could ease below 20 percent from earlier 30 percent levels. Competition from Blinkit, Swiggy and Reliance is cited as the main pressure on like-for-like sales.
Hypermarket floor managers now defend everyday low prices on staples while quick-commerce riders pull impulse and top-up baskets within 10-minute radii. Private-label penetration at the till becomes the key margin lever.
Fifteen new DMart stores cannot offset the quick-commerce drag on same-store growth.
The print hurts pure grocery pure-plays more than fashion value chains and forces smaller regional supermarket operators to accelerate their own dark-store experiments or franchise tie-ups.
Watch the next store-opening run-rate and any commentary on quick-commerce response before the full festive sell-in numbers arrive.
