Flipkart Minutes aims to become India’s default shopping and grocery app, its head said in mid-September. The service operated 627 dark stores across the top 10 quick-commerce cities in August, ahead of Instamart’s 615, while Blinkit led with 969 and Zepto with 828. Daily orders were estimated at 1.1-1.2 million.

Kunal Gupta, head of Flipkart Minutes, said the platform wants to be the default app for shopping and grocery needs, arguing there is no room for eight or nine large players. Minutes had 627 dark stores in the top 10 cities in August and more than 1,000 micro-fulfilment centres across 130-plus cities earlier. Repeat rates sit around 60 percent.

For the dark-store operator and rider the number means denser order pools but tighter delivery radii. A 10-minute promise only works when the next order is already picking two aisles away; any drop in density immediately hits unit economics. Kiranas that supply or compete feel the same pressure on high-frequency SKUs.

We would want to be the default app of India for its shopping and grocery needs.

The push squeezes Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart on both share and talent while giving Flipkart a stronger grocery wedge against Amazon and Reliance’s JioMart. Traditional retailers lose more urban top-up baskets. Shoppers gain faster multi-category options but face the usual discount fatigue.

Watch the next festive spike and any profitability disclosure. August order run-rate versus November’s earlier base will show whether density is converting to better contribution; a CLSA or company update before Diwali will set the tone.
