Assam CM flags the mall investment as proof of rising eastern consumer demand for organised retail.

Nexus Select Trust’s ₹1,600 crore deal in Guwahati drew comment from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 10 September, who called the city’s retail real estate a hot market and invited further investment. The transaction signals organised mall capital moving into the Northeast.
The ₹1,600 crore commitment underscores Guwahati’s consumer momentum after years of limited Grade-A supply. Sarma posted that the investment reflects rising demand and growth, positioning the city for more national brand entries.
Mall operators and shop-in-shop tenants gain new catchment for apparel, electronics and F&B that previously leaked to Kolkata or online. A dark-store or lifestyle brand scouting the Northeast now has institutional space instead of fragmented high-street leases.
Guwahati’s retail real estate market is a hot deal now.
The deal helps Nexus deepen its portfolio while squeezing smaller local landlords who lack modern amenities. It also lifts confidence for other eastern cities watching vacancy and footfall metrics.
Watch leasing announcements through the festive quarter and any follow-on filings for occupancy or brand mix details.
