Five-year franchise ends after ₹92 crore revenue and ₹90 crore loss; kiranas and 10-minute delivery leave no room.

Reliance Retail and 7-Eleven are ending their five-year India franchise partnership, with most of the nearly 60 convenience stores set to close after failing to turn profitable. The venture posted about ₹92 crore revenue and a nearly ₹90 crore net loss in the year ended March 2026. A handful of outlets are clearing stock before shutdown.
The exit was confirmed in early October updates. Reliance had operated the stores under the master franchise. 7-Eleven may seek another local partner but has made no decision. The format never scaled past the mid-sized convenience box.
On the ground a closed 7-Eleven leaves a high-street or mall slot empty. Nearby kiranas regain the impulse snack and milk run that quick commerce already chips at with dark-store riders. Till staff and franchise operators absorb the inventory clearance hit.
Nearly 60 stores shut after ₹92 crore revenue and ₹90 crore loss.
The move helps pure quick-commerce players and traditional kirana networks by removing one organised mid-format rival. It pressures other convenience experiments and mall owners who counted on the traffic. Reliance itself refocuses capital on larger formats and JioMart.
Watch any residual store conversions or 7-Eleven’s next India statement before year-end. Festive footfall data will show whether the closed doors simply shift sales to Blinkit, Zepto or the corner shop.
