India's consumer and retail sector recorded 127 deals valued at about $1.92 billion in the July-September quarter of 2026, according to a Grant Thornton report released on 26 October. Excluding IPOs and QIPs, M&A and PE/VC deals numbered 113 and totalled $948 million, up 19 percent in count and 3 percent in value from the prior quarter.

The Grant Thornton India report dated 26 October put total consumer-retail deals at 127 worth $1.92 billion for Q3 2026. Retail-technology drew the heaviest investment, personal-care deal values rose six times, and e-commerce emerged as the most active segment by volume for the first time since late 2024.

For a kirana owner or dark-store operator the capital wave means more competing formats and private-label pressure on everyday SKUs. Fresh PE money often funds faster store rollouts or tech that cuts last-mile costs, forcing traditional counters to match prices or lose basket share.

Retail-tech led investment while personal-care deal values rose six-fold in Q3.

The surge helps scaled platforms and brands seeking distribution pacts while squeezing smaller unorganised players that lack access to the same capital. Nykaa-style beauty platforms and quick-commerce networks stand to gain most from the personal-care and e-com activity.

Next watch is the Q4 festive deal flow and any large M&A filings before Diwali settlements close; the report already flags retail-tech as the clear magnet.
