Trent reported consolidated net profit of ₹468 crore for the July-September quarter, up 25% year-on-year, on revenue of ₹5,873 crore, up 22%. Zudio store count reached 999, up 24% from 806, while Westside hit 311. The company opened 19 Zudio and 10 Westside outlets in the quarter. Noel Tata steps down as chairman on 11 November.

Zudio’s network grew 23.9% to 999 outlets, with 85% of new stores in peripheral and Tier-2 markets. Star grocery revenue rose 21.8% to ₹1,006 crore, own brands contributing 74%. Like-for-like fashion sales grew mid-single digits; expansion did the heavy lifting. Operating margins improved despite inflation.

On the shop floor a Zudio till in a Tier-2 mall now turns inventory weekly at sub-₹999 price points, pulling footfall that once went to unorganised apparel. Star’s 87 stores across 13 cities keep private-label share high, protecting grocery margins when national brands discount.

Zudio crossed 999 stores with most new doors in Tier-2 and peripheral markets.

The expansion squeezes regional value players and forces larger department stores to defend mid-market share. It helps Trent’s franchise and hinterland landlords who gain reliable anchors. Bahram Vakil takes the chair from 12 November with two new directors joining.

Watch the next store-opening run-rate into the wedding season and any update on Zudio’s UAE seven stores for overseas read-across.
