Trent Ltd will open up to 100 Westside stores annually, backed by a board-approved ₹2,500 crore raise, marking a sharp step-up from its usual 10-15 outlets. The push targets Tier-II and Tier-III cities plus deeper metro play even as Zudio faces denser competition from Yousta and Style Up.

Trent is rebalancing after Zudio drove most of its 1,300-plus store network. Westside, now near 300 stores in 97 cities, will chase higher basket values and private-label margins in fashion, beauty and home.

On the shop floor this means larger 20,000 sq ft formats stocking full private-label ranges instead of the sub-₹999 Zudio rush. A till in Hyderabad or Gurugram will ring higher average tickets once the new stores open.

Westside expansion underlines confidence in aspirational consumers despite near-term moderation.

The move squeezes pure value players already fighting for the same Tier-II real estate while helping landlords fill bigger boxes. It also eases pressure on Trent’s overall fashion growth that moderated amid inflation.

Watch the festive window through Diwali and the next quarterly filing for actual store additions and same-store sales at Westside versus Zudio.
