Trent has signed a licensing agreement with British chain Caffe Nero to open cafes inside its Westside and Zudio stores. The pact comes after talks with Tata Starbucks broke down over format, location and brand prominence. Commercial terms and rollout numbers remain undisclosed.

Retailers worldwide add cafes to give shoppers a reason to linger and spend more. Trent wants the same lift in dwell time across its fashion network that already exceeds 18 million sq ft. Caffe Nero will operate within existing Westside and Zudio outlets rather than standalone sites.

On the shop floor a cafe till next to apparel racks can turn a 20-minute browse into a 45-minute visit. A rider or office worker grabbing coffee is more likely to pick up a basic tee or accessory. Average transaction value rises without heavy discounting.

Cafes inside fashion stores give customers reasons to visit and spend more time.

The deal helps Trent differentiate against pure fashion rivals and gives Caffe Nero instant access to high-footfall catchments. Tata Starbucks loses a potential captive channel inside the group’s own stores.

Watch the first cafe openings and any festive-season dwell-time data in the next quarterly update. Number of outlets planned and average ticket lift will show if the model scales beyond metros.
