Tata Group’s Trent has signed a licensing pact with London-based Caffe Nero to open cafes inside Westside and Zudio stores, people familiar with the matter said on 27 October. The move follows collapsed talks with Tata Starbucks over store formats and locations. Nero gains ready footfall across Trent’s network while the retailer adds high-margin beverage tickets.
Trent will roll Nero counters and seating into selected Westside lifestyle floors and Zudio value outlets under the fresh licensing agreement announced this week. The European chain brings its espresso-led menu without a full JV structure.
On the shop floor the coffee stop extends dwell time past the apparel racks. A shopper who grabs a flat white is more likely to add a second top or accessory at the till, raising average transaction value in both formats.

The deal squeezes pure-play cafe chains chasing mall and high-street sites and helps Trent differentiate against Reliance and ABFRL value plays that lack in-store F&B. It also sidesteps the Starbucks JV constraints that blocked earlier talks.
Watch the first Nero counters open before the peak Diwali window and any disclosure in Trent’s next quarterly filing on contribution to same-store sales.
