The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has initiated penal action against Amazon, Bigbasket, Flipkart, Swiggy Instamart and Zepto over misbranding, misleading claims and sale of prohibited food articles. The move follows dark-store inspections and earlier state-level licence suspensions in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
FSSAI has penalised the listed platforms for food safety and regulatory non-compliances including misbranding and prohibited items sold online. Action comes after heightened scrutiny of quick-commerce dark stores. Maharashtra had earlier suspended licences linked to 14 establishments tied to Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart; Karnataka sealed a Zepto warehouse.
A dark-store supervisor now faces tighter daily temperature and labelling logs before any rider leaves. One failed hygiene check can idle an entire 10-minute catchment and shift orders to the next compliant node.
FSSAI acts against Amazon Flipkart Zepto Instamart on food violations.
Compliance costs rise for every quick-commerce operator while traditional kiranas and larger grocery formats gain relative trust. Horizontal players with mixed assortments must isolate food SKUs faster.
Watch further state FDA inspection rounds this month and any platform response filings. Festive volume peaks will test whether dark stores can keep both speed and clean chits.
