Why Zudio’s 1,000-store machine still outruns the rest

Value fashion density in smaller cities is rewriting the P&L rules that premium and pure-play digital once claimed.

Trent’s Zudio crossing 1,000 stores on the back of 23% revenue growth is not just another milestone. It shows that disciplined physical density at sharp price points continues to beat both global fast-fashion caution and heavy digital spend in India’s mass market.

Zudio’s march past 1,000 outlets, mostly in Tier-II and III catchments, delivered the bulk of Trent’s 23% Q2 revenue rise to ₹5,788 crore. Weekly inventory turns and sub-₹999 tickets keep the tills busy where others stall.

A store manager in a new peripheral mall now competes less with Zara and more with the local multi-brand shop and the quick-commerce apparel drop. Lease and staff costs climb, yet the volume engine still funds expansion that pure online players struggle to match profitably.

Zudio proves mass fashion still runs on stores and price, not hype.

The model squeezes V-Mart and Trends on price while leaving premium Westside and department stores to chase a narrower wallet. DMart’s grocery parallel shows the same physical-scale logic still works when execution stays tight.

The next test is festive like-for-like growth and whether cannibalisation appears in denser clusters before the full-year filing.
