Value formats and quick commerce now set the festive pace

Zudio-style pricing and 10-minute delivery are rewriting what shoppers expect from every till and app this Diwali.

From Trent’s 1,000 Zudio stores to Blinkit’s 2,751 dark stores and mall operators reporting 10-25% sales lifts, the 2026 festive season is being shaped by speed and sharp price points rather than pure premium aspiration. CAIT estimates total Navratri-to-Diwali business above ₹7 lakh crore, 15-18% higher than last year.

Shoppers are voting with their feet and apps for formats that deliver either everyday low prices or near-instant convenience. Mid-tier department stores and slower marketplaces feel the squeeze first.

A kirana owner watching Zudio open two streets away or a Blinkit rider covering the same lane knows the shift is permanent. Ticket sizes stay modest but frequency rises, changing working-capital cycles for everyone upstream.

Speed and sub-₹999 tickets now dictate festive share more than brand heritage.

Premium and experiential retail still grow, yet they now compete for a smaller share of wallet once the value and quick options have taken the routine basket. Private-label and exclusive drops become the only reliable margin defence.

The next four weeks of Diwali sell-through and early January same-store numbers will show whether the uptick holds or fades once the festive calendar ends.

Value retail and qcomm rewrite festive maths

Store density meets 30-minute beauty and coffee adjacency; merchants who ignore mixed-use and speed lose the November basket to those who combine both.
